Brava! for Women in the Arts
Brava! for Women in the Arts mission is to redefine the American stage through an aesthetic that focuses on theater by women and people of color, and to improve the quality of life in San Francisco's Mission District by providing cultural, social and economic opportunities for its residents, with a special emphasis on youth. I provide them with foundation and government grant writing services, including a recently successful $450,000/3-year city contract proposal.
Bread for the Journey
With 18 chapters across the country, Bread for the Journey teaches a simple practice of neighborhood philanthropy based on simplicity and relationships. I delivering a workshop entitled "The Sacred Activity of Fundraising" at their annual 2007 conference.
Compton's Cafeteria Riot 40th Anniversary Commemoration
Three years before the famous rioting at New York's Stonewall Inn, there was a similar riot in San Francisco at Gene Compton's Cafeteria. I led the 40th anniversary commemoration fundraising efforts, including developing, training and managing a team of community volunteer fundraisers. Other tasks included writing case statement and fundraising plan, supervising major donor solicitations, advising on house parties and other public events, coordinating publicity efforts securing international press coverage, and insuring timely gift processing and donor acknowledgements.
Development Executives Roundtable
Henry A. "Hank" Rosso, one of the early leaders in the fundraising field, founded Development Executives Roundtable (DER) in the late 1960's. DER is dedicated to growing and enhancing the community of development professionals by providing low cost, accessible learning and networking opportunities directed towards fundraisers at every stage of their careers. I'm grateful to have been an active member for the past five years. Currently, I'm DER's Governance Committee, and facilitator DER's quarterly FAB workshops, a peer support forum for intermediate and seasoned fundraisers, and nonprofit staff and volunteers with development responsibilities.
Jewish Partisan Education Foundation
Most people have never heard of the 20,000-30,000 Jews who fought back against the Nazis as Jewish partisans. The Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation's mission is to empower Jewish youth of today to embrace their Jewish identity through teaching about these Jewish partisans. My services include grant management, and event planning and leadership development support.
The Last Dance: The Event That Changed Gay History
Currently in production, the upcoming film The Last Dance Raid will recount a pivotal night in American history when gay rights first gained a seat at the table of progressive politics. My services include ongoing business development and fundraising support.
LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired
The LightHouse provides solutions for living with vision loss. I have provided coaching and professional development support to several of their staff members.
New Leaf Services for our Community
Based in San Francisco Bay Area, New Leaf Services For Our Community is one of the nation's largest nonprofit multi-purpose counseling center for the LGBTQ communities. A former Board member, I recently assisted the them with some grant writing duties while they were searching for a new Development Manager.
openhouse
Established in 1998, this San Francisco nonprofit is dedicated to creating and sustaining a senior residential community for LGBTQ seniors. After an executive leadership transition, I helped updated grant management systems, including bringing foundation and corporate prospect list up to date, clarifying program objectives and outcomes, and writing new funding proposals and letters of intent.
Pacific Graduate School of Psychology
PGSP was founded in 1975 by a group of mature students seeking doctoral level education in clinical psychology outside traditional university-based clinical psychology programs. I provided start-up business and fundraising planning and consultation to the school's Ph.D. program's Center for LGBT Evidence-based Applied Research (CLEAR), a new initiative designed to conduct research on diverse sexuality and gender expressions that have a direct impact on the lives of LGBTQ individuals, their families and communities.
Rebuilding Together San Francisco
Rebuilding Together San Francisco provides free home repair and renovation programs for low-income, elderly and disabled San Franciscans and for nonprofit and neighborhood facilities. I gave a fundraising solicitation training to their Board of Directors.
Rockwood Leadership Program
Rockwood Leadership Program is the nation's premiere nonprofit organization that promotes social change through leadership training and consulting to progressive nonprofits. I provide them with prospect research, grant writing and strategic consulting to strengthen and expand their relationships with foundations supporters, such as the Ford Foundation, Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Arcus Foundation.
San Francisco LGBT Community Center
The Center provides San Francisco with a vast array of programs and services for LGBTQ people, their friends and families. During a 6-month search for a new Development Director, I managed major donor and annual fund fundraising efforts for this multi-million agency. Services included facilitating and training a group of major donor volunteer and staff solicitors, conducting donor research, and compiling monthly progress reports. Completed all facets of two membership renewal and upgrade mailings, including solicitation writing and list management, as well as securing list for targeted 60,000 piece acquisition mailing. Initiated and led The Center's first ever telefund campaign, and successfully managed donor thank-you-thon sessions. Consulted on annual gala donor cultivation and yearly development planning strategies. Conducted ongoing coaching with Executive Director and development line staff.
Sojourn Chaplaincy
Sojourn began in the 1970s as a chaplaincy program of the Diocese providing visits at San Francisco General Hospital to AIDS patients, their families and caregivers. Since then, Sojourn's volunteer network has expanded and they now visit over 11,000 patients, staff and loved ones at the hospital every year. Sojourn is also a professional internship training site for chaplaincy students. In June 2007, I designed and facilitated a 1/2-day Board training retreat, successfully creating their new annual fundraising plan. I now provide the agency with ongoing donor prospecting, as well as solicitation training and coaching support.
Transgender Law Center
The Transgender Law Center is a civil rights organization advocating for transgender communities and gender non-conforming individuals. My services included Board development trainings, annual gala event coordination, and direct response fundraising consultation.
Youth ALIVE!
Youth ALIVE! is a nonprofit public health agency founded in 1991 dedicated to preventing youth violence and generating youth leadership in California communities. They work in urban areas that have been dubbed "murder central, ground zero or the killing fields" by youth who live there. I'm honored to provide their board of directors with fundraising training and planning suppoprt.
